Community Projects
We believe that restoring a sense of dignity goes a long way in how people feel about themselves, their neighborhood and their neighbors. By cleaning up neighborhoods, repairing houses and helping out with yard work we are able to restore a sense of worth into people and neighborhoods. From revitalizing a playground to repairing a roof in order to use air conditioniing the Nehemiah Project International is always looking for ways to rebuild neighborhoods, help people and build strong communities.
Playground Restoration
The playground at Sigma Acres Apartments was worn, dull and not in working order. Parts of the playground were covered in graffiti and it was anything but inviting for an afternoon of play. The Nehemiah Project International sanded and painted the equipment, fixed the merry-go-round and painted the brick wall, covering it in the handprints of the kids who live in the apartments.
Other Community Projects
* With the help of Lowes, NPI replaced the roof for an elderly woman who was unable to use her air conditioner (in 110 deg heat!) because her roof was unstable. After replacing part of her roof she felt that it was safe enough to use her air again.
*Cleared an alley that was so full of trash and discarded items that it was unusable. The City of Visalia provided an industrial dumpster and pick up for the items we cleared.
UPCOMING PROJECT: Lowes has approved NPI for the Heroes Program and will be building a community garden May 2015!
